All About NIFT B.FTech 2019

A NIFT B.F.Tech (Apparel Production) graduate program, is a course that will churn out professionals in the Apparel Manufacturing industry. This course introduces elementary streams like Apparel manufacturing technology, Information technology, Quality management etc to participants.


The course has a two pronged approach, wherein the students are introduced to the fundamentals on the aesthetic & design elements, in addition to management skills which are essential in the apparel manufacturing industry.


Additionally the course provides executive, advanced level and strategic inputs in the field of apparel production through major, interdisciplinary minor subjects and 3 different deepening specialisations - Apparel Production Technology, Apparel Production Management, Apparel Product Development.


Other subjects like general electives & floating majors are included to develop students & provide additional knowledge, therefore making a shift from academic to holistic understanding of the subject.


Having understood the course curriculum, it’s important to understand the semester - wise breakup of the program. I.e. from the Semester I to Semester V, students learn to work in the fashion industry, apparel production technology, pattern making and garment construction, apparel production management, apparel quality management & introductory courses in fashion marketing & retail management. Apart from this they also get exposure in artificial intelligence, technical textiles, entrepreneurship, database management for apparel business & Industrial Engineering among other subjects.


A Bachelor’s program in Fashion Technology also equips students to gain expertise in core areas of mass manufacturing of apparel viz. Apparel technology, production planning, industrial engineering, sustainable production.


This course is designed to expose the student to the human body & developing patterns in 2D, in addition to converting raw materials into 3D Apparel. Extensive knowledge of raw materials including fabrics & trims are also taught to students, in addition to developing the hands on skill of the students in the area of Pattern making and Garment construction employing the best industrial practices.


After understanding the overall framework of the course, lets move into the modules of the program. The program starts with engineering, drawing & conversion of 3D


object into 2D shape through draping techniques, finally culminating into the development of a complex product.


Aimed at strengthening the students knowledge of Manufacturing Technology, by making them learn the practical exercises in designing a manufacturing set-up, with inputs on Robotics & Mechatronics and their applications in the Industry.

On completion of the above specializations, students have a myriad of opportunities to choose from, some of which are listed below -


Apparel Product development

The career prospects available to students on completion of this program are room co-ordinator, technical audit manager, fit analyst, production merchant, product manager, product engineer etc.


Apparel Production Technology

The career opportunities available to students here are production planner, production manager, lean system manager, sustainable manager, plant manager, industrial engineer, work study manager etc.


Apparel Production Management

Merchandising (production), Vendor evaluation/selection/development, quality management, automation, application & management of information technology are the job opportunities available to students on completion of this program.


Now that we’ve understood the course structure, let’s move onto understanding the eligibility criterion of the program.


Eligibility criterion

Maximum Age: 23 years as on 1st October 2017. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Person With Disability (PWD) subject to following qualifications: Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes


• The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics


OR


General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB)


OR


• Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics


OR


• A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

OR


• 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education


The Examination Process

All eligible candidates go through a written examination comprising of General Ability Test (GAT).

A Paper Based Test (PBT) for all UG and PG programs will be conducted on 20th January 2019 at 32 cities.
