NID DAT EXAM PATTERN 2018

The National Institute of Design, NID, located in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kurukshetra, Vijayawada and Bangalore, is one of the best design institutes globally, which offers Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Master of Design (M.Des) and Diploma courses. National Institute of Design, NID, offers programs in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (B.Des and M.Des). Candidates wishing to seek admissions in this institute have to attempted their entrance exam- Design Aptitude Test. The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT), has two stages - DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.


DAT Prelims:

  • Part 1: 70 marks (MCQs) (OMR sheet)
  • Part 2: 30 marks subjective questions (visual or written format)
  • No negative marking


DAT Mains:

  • 100 marks (english)
  • No negative marking


The exam consists of 3 stages:


First stage: Written exam of 100 marks (the written part is divided into two stages - objective 70 marks and subjective 30 marks). The applicants who qualify the written exam are called for the second round (clearing the cut-off set by NID for that year).


Second stage: Studio test (100 marks)

  • Drawing/sketching
  • Modelling
  • Group discussion
  • Presentations


Third stage: Interview is held at the same center and post these three stages, a final list of selected candidates is prepared.
