Are you an aspirant of Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) program at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad or IIITDM Jabalpur? Then you must be thoroughly prepared on the mechanics of the Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) exam.

The cities where UCEED 2019 will be held in India are - Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulum, Panaji, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Vishakhapatnam.

As a aspirant of one of India’s premier institutes, you must be prepared on every aspect of the exam and ensure there are no surprises! Let’s decode the exam step by step. Firstly let’s start with the UCEED eligibility criterion.

  • Qualifying exam: (10+2) candidates from all streams i.e. Science, commerce, Arts & humanities are eligible for the entrance exam. Pls note - For IIT, Guwahati, Science background is mandatory with 50% in (10+2) level or

  • 3 Years diploma course approved by AICTE

Having understood the UCEED eligibility criterion, you must be absolutely clear about this:-

Just writing the UCEED exam or being on the rank list neither guarantees nor provides a seat at the institute! UCEED qualified candidates need to apply separately for B.Des admissions.

  • Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years. The score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.

Also finally the exam date is slated on January 19, 2019.

After a basic overview of the eligibility criterion, one must be crystal clear on the exam structure, pattern & syllabus as the next step.

The questions paper is 3 hours & is computer based with a total of 300 marks.

It has 3 sections, which are:-

Section A: Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Here the answer is a number & no choices will be shown for these questions

Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ). Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices.

Section C: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one is the correct answer

A deeper look into all the sections will give you an idea of what to expect!

Section A: The Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

For these questions, the answer is a number & no choices will be shown for these questions. Each correct answer gets 4 marks & there’s no negative marking in this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark. This section contains 20 questions. Whereas the Section B consists of Multiple Select Questions (MSQ). Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets 4 marks only if ALL the correct choices and NO wrong choices are selected. There is NO NEGATIVE marks in this section. And finally Section C consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).

Each MCQ has four choices of which only one is correct. There is NEGATIVE marking for this section & each correct answer gets 3 marks, plus each wrong answer will be awarded –1 (minus one) mark. This sections contains 40 questions.
