Being the only international collaborator of Kingston University(No.1 Design College in UK), IIAD adapts its best practices to the needs of the students, faculty, and the overall Indian design industry. IIAD has a sprawling 75,000 sqft campus equipped with all the essentials of a globally rated design school. The state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technology facilitate quality teaching-learning and student-faculty interface. All courses at IIAD are taught through the studio-based learning approach and the expansive design studios encourage collaborative and mentor-driven learning. The specially designed campus caters to the curriculum requirements and allows the students to unwind and have fun too!

Faculty at IIAD are leading academicians as well as design practitioners, who bring industry insights and live projects to the classroom. This ensures that students graduate not just with a degree but a strong resume, leading to excellent internships as well as placement opportunities.

Each year IIAD enrolls a limited number of applicants. Courses offered at IIAD

UG

B.A. (Hons.) Fashion Design

The Fashion Design Programme celebrates each student’s ideas, experiences and uniqueness. A wide range of teaching and learning strategies are used to effectively impart knowledge and skills pertaining to the Fashion Design ecosystem, encouraging students to explore their artistic and technical skills in an industry valued north of $3 trillion globally.

The teaching-learning philosophy is based on the concept of project-based learning where students are trained in ‘the approach’. The projects, thus woven into the curriculum across the programme, help students understand the importance of sustainability and ethical fashion practices besides the core competencies of a good fashion designer.

Students graduating from the programme will be able to use design thinking and creative problem-solving strategies to create appealing, sustainable and responsible fashion for a rapidly evolving industry.

B.A. (Hons.) Communication Design

The BA Communication Design programme is delivered through a mix of project work, group work, lectures, seminars and assignments. The programme nurtures the individualistic streak in all students and encourages a culture of ‘learning by doing’, which enables and challenges them to develop and evolve their own creative process. This is further instilled in the students by following a ‘project based approach’ rather than a purely theoretical one. The communication design programme does not offer separate specializations and instead exposes students to all the fields that fall within the domain. This makes the students multidisciplinary thinkers. However, the students can position themselves as specialists in a desired field through a careful selection of their projects.

Students learn in a studio environment which forms the fulcrum around which the entire teaching learning philosophy is based. The programme concludes with a Major Design Project in the last semester of the final year, this is an amalgamation of the specialization and is defined by the student’s own path as a future designer.

B.A. (Hons.) Interior Architecture and Design

The Interior Architecture and Design programme provides a multi-disciplinary approach to transforming existing spaces and places. In increasingly Urban Environments, the emphasis on the design and working of a building, inside out, has gained tremendous importance. The programme focuses on examining existing structures and transforming their interior through relevant design interventions and renovations.

The Interior Architecture programme focuses on spatial design and detailing, adaptive reuse and retrofitting as well as architectural addition and refurbishment. It also addresses a wide range of spaces, from domestic to retail, institutional to commercial and set/production design to issues of conservation. A deep understanding of the Built Environment, it’s fundamental principles and economics, along with technical aspects of services and construction lie at the core of the programme.

The Interior Architecture course at IIAD is envisioned to allow students to become critical thinkers and self-reflective design practitioners, by providing them with a multi-disciplinary, intellectually rigorous and learner centric environment.

B.A. (Hons.) Fashion Business Management

The BA (Hons) Fashion Business Management programme has been designed to help students diagnose fashion trends and retail consumer cycle in light of social, technological, political and economic influences. The programme promotes creative thinking within a commercial context as the students learn to deconstruct successful fashion business models to understand how they thrive in the customer-centric world. This helps them acquire detailed insights on marketing and promotional strategies backed by market intelligence that eventually communicate an orchestrated brand experience.

The students learn how to be sensitive to consumers’ needs by leveraging research methodologies and studies that gauge trends consumers are ready for. While working on multiple projects and case studies, students get valuable insights into product sourcing, product costing and pricing, facets integral for profitably sustaining a mammoth industry such as Fashion. Due emphasis is also laid on fashion buying, merchandising, forecasting, management strategy, public relations, marketing and branding in the domestic and international business context. Students also gain valuable experience in the research process such as definition of the problem, search & collection of relevant data, analysis of the data and drawing conclusions.

PG

M.A. Fashion Design

The postgraduate programme is tailored to nurture the creative and conceptual knowledge of graduates who seek to pursue a career path in Fashion. Design development, experimentation, textile manipulation and garment prototyping are pivotal facets that students will be exposed to. With a strong emphasis on research, the course-specific projects and student-work inculcate a thorough understanding of contemporary ideas and issues in the fashion industry such as sustainability, ethics, better production practices, and cultural identity. Simultaneously, students also develop an awareness and sensitivity towards indigenous practices, traditional techniques and local identities.

In order to meet the challenges of the fashion industry, students are given detailed insights on professional project development, collection development, marketing, business intelligence and personal branding. The programme enables students to navigate the terrain of Fashion equipped with their individual creativity, vision, personal expression, critical evaluation and intellectual ability.

M.A. Fashion Business Management

Students of the Postgraduate programme in Fashion Business Management will explore and evaluate new fashion markets, products and trends from a commercial and strategic perspective. The Course Team will provide detailed insights on differentiating Luxury from Mass fashion; Haute-Couture from Ready-to-Wear besides understanding apparel, accessories and footwear as fashion business units. In order to promote and communicate the brand well, students will be trained to identify key success factors of a fashion venture. Intensive modules and projects enable deeper understanding of a product’s life-cycle – from concept to production which is followed by marketing and sales.

During the programme, the graduates develop an understanding of the key role played by brand management and marketing in fashion using traditional and new media. The programme enables a sound understanding of customer expectations, market trends, brand loyalties, services and pricing models in addition to delivering an effective customer experience. Why IIAD?

IIAD follows these five pedagogical approaches for acquisition of right skills and knowledge to become creative leaders:

  1. Learner Centric Curriculum: At IIAD, we put ‘you’, the learner, at the centre of the process. The ownership is placed in the hands of the learner - we inculcate an inquiry-based approach. In an open-ended studio environment, students get ample opportunities to develop their perspectives. This enables you to develop awareness of yourself and the world, inspiring you to discover your individual expression.
  2. Project Based Learning: This is an enquiry-based learning approach in which students acquire deeper knowledge through carefully crafted real time projects. This ensures that concepts and skills are not learnt in silos but in an integrated manner. The projects put students on a journey of discovery that involves asking relevant questions, developing and adopting strategies to find answers, validating and revising the findings, and finally arriving at the understanding.
  3. Thinking Through Making: Students are encouraged to think through making, bringing cognitive processes together with action. IIAD is equipped with digital labs and 3D workshops, where students can do practical, hands-on experiments. The studio environment merges into these workshop spaces, providing a seamless interface between thinking and making.
  4. Interdisciplinary Approach: At IIAD, you learn from specialists from varied fields and also from your peers who are studying in different courses. This exposure provides the IIAD student a broader understanding of how inter-disciplinary thinking influences design solutions. It also helps the student recognize biases, tolerate ambiguities and shapes their critical thinking.
  5. Industry Interactions: At IIAD, introduction into professional design practice begins early. You become industry-ready through various interactions, master classes, live projects and internships, all of which are an integral part of our learning methodology. The two major Learn On-site internships for 8 + 16 weeks initiate you into industry practices, ensuring you graduate with a resume, not just a degree.

Internships and Placements

IIAD encourages students to explore internship opportunities throughout the duration of their chosen programme. In fact, students in the third year (Level 5) are required to mandatorily complete a Career Building Internship of 16 weeks duration, at the end of which they are awarded credits based on their performance.

A dedicated placement cell works to bridge the aspirations of a student and the needs of the industry. They support students to prepare for placements through mock-interviews, one-on-one counselling and by organizing workshops in portfolio development, CV writing and interview skills. They provide various opportunities for internships and placements aligned to each student’s specific forte/area of interest related to the industry.
