MIT Institute of Design, is a premier centre for Design education, practice and research in India. The institute has driven new ways of design thinking, since its establishment in 2006.

Being a pioneer in the dissemination of modern design education in India, the institute has nurtured many design talents. The institute offers a diverse range of design programmes at the Undergraduate (4 years) and Post Graduate (2 years) levels with 1000+ students pursuing programmes in Industrial, Communication & Fashion design disciplines. With more than 60+ teaching staff, as active professional designers and practitioners, MIT ID focuses on leading the way in creative and experimental practices that enhance the growth of the design doers. The amalgamation of a varied student group and highly experienced staff help the institute in creating a unique and multifaceted learning experience for the learners.

MITID has successfully transitioned into being a constituent of MIT ART, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY established by the Government of Maharashtra through ACT XXXIV 2015. With a decade-plus of excellence and pursuit of one of our future aspirations, MIT Institute of Design with 1300+ creative minds on campus and 1000+ alumni professionals have added a further dimension to the programmes of design learning at our campus. The learners and faculty mentors have registered their presence by winning awards in various categories at national & international levels, including the prestigious 2 Red dot awards won by our alumni and more than 20 design registrations. MIT Institute of Design is working closely with the national & international design community, being a member of CUMULUS, WDO (World Design Organization) and collaborations with more than 10 reputed Universities across the world. The concept of the Design Habitat is a logical and organic extension of our stated philosophy that ensures a total generalist ambience to enable design learning. It would evolve as an overarching concept around the functional framework of the Design Institute which remains an integral component of Habitat. It is in this kind of stimulating and inspirational environment that mentors from various design-related disciplines are invited to interact with the design learners and challenge their young minds to explore newer territories that should complement and reinforce their ongoing design learning. The mentors ensure that the level of interaction is such that it eventually leads to learning that is comprehensive, sustained and focused in-depth, and directly or indirectly design related.

We follow the professional standards and best practices of project management to create optimum value for our industry partners. We also ensure that confidentiality is maintained and the appropriate IP transfer processes are followed in these engagements.

As a premier design institute, we regularly conduct workshops for training, self-development and learning of our students. The institute is facilitated with a well-equipped Library, Computer Labs with software as per industry standards, an Incubation/ Accelerator Centre (Design Gild), Clay Sculpting Studio and many more. We are also equipped with Wood Cutting Workshop, Metal Cutting Workshop and Advanced Prototyping Workshop with all the latest CNC, Laser Cutting & 3D printing setups.

Classroom Projects

We undertake live projects to support our curriculum across all disciplines. In this model, a group of students from a particular class will work on providing the design solution under the guidance of the appointed faculty.

Faculty Projects

Faculties are already involved in various types of government, private and social welfare-related projects. Students can choose to be a part of such projects for their own exposure.

Design Labs

Design Lab is an attempt to make students Industry ready by the time they graduate. This is a unique collaboration where industries collaborate with the objective of generating ideas under the guidance of faculty and industry mentors. Those ideas can be passed on to the respective design team, which can be further moulded into workable solutions. This acts as a great source of clarity regarding changes required for the implementation of those ideas.

Social Innovation Projects

Social welfare is an integral part of MIT ID’s culture. There have been diverse projects in Health care, Sanitation, Community Development, women's safety and security and Child development to name a few.

Campus Placements

Students who participate in campus placement are final-year students who have recently graduated and are readily available to join.

Graduation Project

It is mandatory for final-year students to undertake live projects as part of their Grad project. The duration of the graduation project varies from 16-20 weeks starting in December of every year. The students are expected to work under the guidance of an industry mentor and a faculty mentor. An industry mentor is typically a professional designer who can guide the student in applying their design intervention skills to solve problems.

Summer Internship

The summer internship is typically undertaken by students who are in their penultimate graduating year. Duration is of 2 months starting from May, every year. The purpose of an internship for our students is not only to learn but also to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge and skills that they have gained throughout their educational years.
