The different branches / disciplines in architecture are as below:
- Building Planning
- Landscape Design
- Town Planning
- Urban Design
- Interior Design
- Green Architecture
Regarding the best branch of architecture to consider depends on your passion, interest and personality.
The first attempt of NATA is generally in April. JEE Paper 2 attempts are in January & April. Hence, for the first round of admissions, architecture schools would consider the best of the 3 attempts. Only the SPA’s, NIT’s and IIT’s would consider the best of the two JEE Paper 2 attempts only and not the NATA attempt.

What is the difference between the 3-year and 4-year undergraduate degree offered at Srishti School of Design? 3 years ago
The 3 year Undergraduate Technical Program is based on the National Skills Qualification Framework (levels 5, 6 and 7) and the degree offered is B.Voc and whereas the 4 year Undergraduate Professional Programs in Design and in Fine Arts trains students in the various fields of art and design with a focus on cross-disciplinary education and the degree offered is B.Des or B.F.A
Both Architecture & Engineering are great fields to be in. However, your choice must not depend on the opportunities once you graduate. Rather, your choice must be based on your personality and fit with the program.
Engineering is more suitable to Left Brain dominant individuals - or those who have an affinity for numbers, logic etc. Engineering entrance exams like JEE Paper 1 & JEE Advanced will test you primarily for these skills.
Architecture requires both Left Brain and Right brain skills sets - i.e. Logic / Analytical as well as emotional / creative skill sets. Hence, entrance exams like NATA & JEE Paper 2 will test you for both logical / Analytical skills along with Creative skills like spatial ability and Design sketching.
Try taking this Aptitude Test - It will probably help you understand your skills to make a good decision
For qualifying for B.Arch one has to secure at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination and also a minimum of 25% must be secured in MCQ portion (30 out of 120) and 25% in Drawing portion (20 out of 80).
Additionally, NATA & JEE Paper 2 are only Qualifying exams. These scores need to be sent to the respective boards / colleges for admissions along with your 12th board marks.
The merit ranks are relative each year and can not be predicted. However, you can get an idea about this based on last year cut off for SPA’s and NIT’s.
